In theory, Chelsea still have a chance of finishing second in the league. Realistically however Guus Hiddink's men aren't likely to surpass Liverpool on the final day and a third-placed finish seems to be practically certain.
Sunderland meanwhile know that a defeat in this home game could force them to spend a season at a lower level if both Hull City and Newcastle United win their matches. A draw however, would be enough to secure another year in the top flight.
Steed Malbranque might miss out for Sunderland due to a hip injury. Other absentees are Craig Gordon, Nyron Nosworthy and George McCartney.
Portuguese duo Deco and Ricardo Carvalho might both make their comeback after recovering from hamstring injuries, and Michael Ballack appears to be fit after suffering from the flu.
Chelsea are, not surprisingly, most likely to take the win.
