Standard de Liège vs. Olympiakos CFP, 2:0

Luke Williams - 4 Nov 2009
A win over Standard Liege on Wednesday could well be enough for Greek champions Olympiakos Piraeus to secure their spot in the second round of this year's UEFA Champions League. Things haven't been going too well for Standard lately. The Belgian champions are in last place in Group H with just one point, and desperately need a win to keep hope alive. Things are no better at the domestic level, where Standard are currently in third place at no less than eight points from leaders Brugge. Olympiakos have six points from their first three Champions League games and have only Arsenal ahead in this group. At home, there is no reason to complain either as they currently share first place with Panathinaikos with eight victories and one draw. The previous match played between these two games, a fortnight ago, was won 2-1 by Olympiakos in Greece. Standard captain Steven Defour will miss out again as he is still recovering from a foot fracture. Cedrid Collet is sidelined with a broken metatarsal, as is Igor de Camargo. Matt Derbyshire isn't likely to feature for Olympiakos as result of a groin injury. Enzo Maresca, Diogo, Andreas Vasilogiannis and Jaouad Zairi are out injured as well, while Olof Mellberg and Michal Zewlakow are both doubtful. Standard are slight favorites to win this game, mostly as result of their home advantage. Nevertheless, any other outcome shouldn't be ruled out. REVIEW:
