Sevilla Fútbol Club vs. Málaga Club de Fútbol, 2:2

Luke Williams - 28 Nov 2009
Bottom side Málaga face a daunting task on Saturday when they travel to take on third-placed Sevilla in La Liga action. Sevilla, beaten 1-0 by Romanian side Unirea in the Champions League on Tuesday, were 2-1 winners at Tenerife a week ago. Before the loss in the midweek, Sevilla had gone eight games in all competitions without defeat. Málaga, on the other hand, are winless in 10 league matches since an opening day defeat of Villarreal, and they were held 1-1 at home by Zaragoza last weekend. Sevilla manager Manolo Jiménez has a policy of keeping his squad guarded before the day of the match, but Adriano and Julien Escudé are undoubtedly going to miss out yet again via injury. Málaga have Weligton suspended after being sent off last week, and several players - Xavi Torres, Edu Ramos, Helder Rosario and Francesc Arnau - are set to miss out due to injury. Sevilla should score early and often in this one. Expect Málaga to continue pulling up the rear of the league at the end of the day. REVIEW: A pair of goals by Luis Fabiano spared Sevilla's blushes on Saturday as they came from two goals down to beat lowly Málaga on Saturday. It appeared that it would be a long day for the bottom side in the league when they walked into the Sánchez Pizjuán when the home side had several good chances go awry in the opening quarter hour of the match. But they stunned the home crowd on 22 minutes with the opener, Fernando Escribano pouncing on a rebound after Javi Varas parried away a shot. Sevilla then missed several more chances before falling 2-0 behind just before half-time when Duda slotted past Varas after a pinpoint cross by Fernando. The home finally cashed in on some of their dominance in the 58th minute as Luis Fabiano headed home from Jesús Navas' inswinging corner, and he pulled Sevilla level 15 minutes later after being put through on goal by Fredi Kanouté. Sebastien Squillaci had a chance to win it late on for Sevilla with a point-blank header, but Gustavo Munúa did well to save and keep the scores level.
