Werder Bremen can move level on points at the top of the Bundesliga on Saturday when they visit Freiburg in Round 13 of the 2009/10 Bundesliga.
Bremen currently sit three points adrift of leaders Bayer Leverkusen - who play Bayern Munich on Sunday - and are unbeaten since the opening weekend of the season when they lost to Eintracht Frankfurt. Bremen were held at home 1-1 by Borussia Dortmund two weeks ago before the international break.
Freiburg, on the other hand, snapped a four-match league losing skid a fortnight ago when they beat Bochum 2-1 away from home to bump them up to 12th place in the league standings.
Freiburg are almost completely healthy for the match on Sunday with just Felix Roth and Ömer Toprak set to miss out with injuries.
Bremen have more knocks to deal with, as Christian Vander, Tim Borowski, Torsten Frings, Peter Niemeyer, and Claudio Pizarro are all ruled out for Saturday's game.
Bremen, despite the injuries, should have no problem traveling away from home and grabbing a massive three points as they continue their title run.
REVIEW:
Werder Bremen went top of the Bundesliga on Saturday with a scintillating performance in a 6-0 away thrashing of hapless Freiburg.
Hugo Almeida opened the scoring the 33rd minute for Bremen with a header from Mesut Özil's pass, and that would just be a glimpse of what Bremen would do to Freiburg in the second half.
Ten minutes after the restart, the onslaught began as Marko Marin curled a free kick beyond goalkeeper Simon Pouplin, and Almeida notched his second just two minutes later after another fine Özil cross.
It was 4-0 in the 67th minute when Özil got one of his own after a fine run into the area, and Naldo scored from the spot six minutes later when Özil was tripped up in the area.
The rout was complete on 82 mintes when substitute striker Markus Rosenberg fired home after yet another wonderful ball by the influential Özil.
