Real Sporting de Gijón vs. Sevilla Fútbol Club, 0:1

Luke Williams - 13 Dec 2009
Sevilla look to go third in the La Liga standings on Sunday when they travel to the north coast for a clash with Sporting Gijón. Sevilla, 1-0 winners over Rangers in the midweek, were held 1-1 at home by Valladolid last week in a less-than-convincing effort. They can, however, move into sole possession of third place with a win after Valencia fell to Real Madrid. Sporting, meanwhile, are reeling a bit after last week's 2-1 loss in the Canary Islands to Tenerife, but they still sit a comfortable eighth in the standings. They are also yet to lose in six home matches this season. Sporting go into the match at El Molinón without Mate Bilic, Luis Morán and Roberto Canella through injury. The rest of the squad is fit, but it will be interesting how manager Manuel Preciado fills those key holes in the team. Sevilla will be without Luis Fabiano through a suspension after picking up a fifth booking last weekend, and Aldo Duscher and Federico Fazio continue to be long-term absences for Manolo Jiménez's side. Sevilla have won only once in Gijón, and that came all the way back in December 1993. They will be eager, however, to consolidate their league position. Look for a strong effort from both sides and a thoroughly entertaining encounter. REVIEW:
