Newcastle United Football Club vs. Aston Villa Football Club, 2:0

Luke Williams - 3 Nov 2008
Newcastle United could end the week in twentiest and last place in the Premiership, if they don't earn at least a point against Aston Villa on Monday. It won't be easy for the Magpies, as Villa have won their last three games and are currently in fifth place. The last time these two teams met, in February this year, the Birmingham outfit won 4-1. United could be boosted by the return of captain Michael Owen, and Nicky Butt should also recover in time from his ankle injury to make an appearance. Stiliyan Petrov (hamstring) is a doubt for Villa, as is Steve Sidwell. REVIEW: Newcastle United have left the Premiership relegation zone behind thanks to a 2-0 win over Aston Villa. Both goals came from Obafemi Martins. Villa had a good chance to go ahead but Laursen had a header bounce off the post. Newcastle answered with a strong display by Martins. The Nigerian first struck from the edge of the area to open the score on the hour mark, and added a second with preparing work on the left wing from Jonas Gutierrez in the 82nd minute. The Magpies are now to be found in 14th place, while Wigan hover only one spot above the relation zone.
