Fenerbahçe Spor Kulübü vs. Arsenal FC, 2:5

Luke Williams

Fenerbahçe have had a rather disastrous start to their season and things might get worse when they host English giants Arsenal on Tuesday. The turkish side have been vulnerable in their domestic league and currently occupy the tenth place. Arsenal have done better and are fourth in the Premiership, although the Gunners surely hope to climb in the near future. Fener manager Luis Aragones has several long-term injury cases to deal with, and midfielder Gokhan Gonul might have to miss out on this game as well. Arsene Wenger has to do without William Gallas, Kolo Toure and Bacary Sagna, but Samir Nasri and Nicklas Bendtner have recovered from minor knocks. REVIEW: Arsenal delivered a strong performance in Istanbul on Tuesday, beating Fenerbahçe 2-5 to defend their top spot in Group G. Emmanuel Adebayor opened the score after just ten minutes, beating the offside trap before slotting past Volkan Demirel for 1-0. And youngster Theo Walcott made things worse for the hosts another minute later, with Fabregas - who had delivered the assist for the first goal - again of great influence. The Spaniard now enabled Walcott to round the keeper and make it 0-2. An own goal from Silvestre gave Fenerbahçe new hope in the 19th minute but Diaby replied three minutes later and restored the two-goal gap. Arsenal's fourth goal came from Song, who took advantage of bad clearance and netted for 1-4 in the 49th minute. Dani Güiza got a second goal for the Turks in the 78th minute but Ramsay had the final say four minutes into extra time, 2-5. With seven points from three games, Arsenal keep their lead in this group. Fenerbahçe have little chance left of advancing to the next round, as they are in fourth place with just one point.
