Club Atlético de Madrid vs. Liverpool FC, 1:1

Atletico Madrid have not have the best of times recently. Their last home match in the Champions League against Olympique de Marseille was marred by crowd violence. In the Primera Division they have lost their last three including a mauling by FC Barcelona and a home defeat in the Derby against Real Madrid at the weekend. Czech Republic defender Tomas Ujfalusi is expected to sit out through injury while Argentinean striker Sergio Aguero could be given a rest. Liverpool are enjoying their best start to a season for a long while and they are joint leaders with Atletico in Group D with maximum points. Fernando Torres, formerly with Atletico Madrid, is unlikely to start. At the back of the Liverpool minds would be their top of the League clash on Sunday at Stamford Bridge against joint leaders Chelsea. On form Liverpool would start as favourites but home ground advantage may give Atletico a slight edge as they try to reverse their indifferent recent form. A win by either side will guarantee progress into the next round. REVIEW: There was much interest in this game both for reasons of footballing abilities as well as for crowd behaviour. After this match both sides look set to head Group D come the end of the Group stages. The first half was dominated by the visitors who led 1-0 thanks to a Robbie Keane strike early on in the match. A well weighted through ball from captain Steven Gerrard found Robbie Keane who beat the offside trap before firing in his shot past goalkeeper Leo Franco. Atletico Madrid, under extreme pressure in their domestic Primera Division after having lost three in a row, came out in more determined mood in the second half and were well rewarded when Diego Forlan found Simao Sabrosa unmarked in the area. His left-footed shot flew past goalkeeper Pepe Reina to equalise.
