It will be a mid-table clash at the Stadio Sant’Elia between two unpredictable sides when Cagliari host Napoli as Week 16 of Serie A resumes on Saturday night.
The Rossoblu though hold the upper hand in Sardinia and it won’t be easy for the Azzurri.
Cagliari are once again defying the odds and enjoying a really good season. Massimiliano Allegri has been working his magic and it is only a matter of time before he lands at a bigger club. The Rossoblu have collected nine points in the last five games, but were defeated by Palermo on Sunday.
After a difficult start, Napoli are finally enjoying a good run. The side looks much more clinical now and the Campani have become a solid team. Last weekend against Bari they proved all their worth with a spectacular 3-2 win.
But Lino Marzoratti will be missing with Marco Pisano covering for him. Andrea Cossu looked in great form last week and will be playing behind the two strikers, Alessandro Matri and Nenè.
The visitors will be without Leandro Rinaudo and Matteo Contini, who are suspended. Mazzarri should stick to the two men up front and this strategy seems to suit them.
REVIEW:
Napoli grabbed a 3-3 draw in Cagliari with the last kick of the game at the Stadio Sant’Elia on Saturday.
Cagliari created the first opportunity when a brilliant Alessandro Matri cross-field pass sent Andrea Cossu clear, but Morgan De Sanctis held his ground very well to parry in the one-on-one.
Lavezzi broke the deadlock with a brilliant individual effort, as he broke away between three Sardinian jerseys and stroked a precise right-foot angled drive into the far bottom corner from outside the box.
Marchetti could do nothing from a corner, as Michele Pazienza was unmarked firing an attempt in from 10 yards.
Cagliari did get themselves back into the game soon after. Matri turned provider when he crossed low from the left for substitute Joaquin Larrivey to volley in with the inside of his left foot. The Argentine got in front of Aronica to sweep in from seven yards.
Cagliari completed the spectacular comeback from 2-0 down as Matri's header looped over De Sanctis and in off the underside of the crossbar.
But the drama still wasn't over, as Cagliari scored their third.
Jeda had just come off the bench and with his first touch hit the back of the net with a towering header on Andrea Lazzari's cross from the left.
The intensity of the occasion got to Lavezzi, who kicked the ball at Coach Allegri on the touchline and was inevitably sent off.
It didn't matter, as the moment play resumed Napoli scored for 3-3. An initial Denis header was fantastically saved by Marchetti's outstretched hand, but he could do nothing on Mariano Bogliacino's follow-up.
