CD Tenerife vs. Málaga Club de Fútbol, 2:2

Luke Williams - 7 Nov 2009
Bottom side Málaga look to give their season a major boost on Saturday, but their task will be large as they travel to the Canary Islands to face Tenerife. Since winning their opening fixture of the season 3-0 against Atlético Madrid, Málaga have earned just one point in their last eight games, including last weekend's 1-0 loss at home against Valencia. Despite a fairly decent home record, Tenerife have struggled overall, losing four of their last five La Liga matches, including a 5-0 drubbing at the hands of Villarreal this past Sunday. Tenerife manager José Luis Oltra reported no immediate absences for Saturday's match, and his squad appears to be fully fit for the crucial game that could see the home side gain a bit of distance from the relegation zone. Málaga meanwhile have several players out due to injury including midfielders Albert Luque, Juanito Gutiérrez, and Apono. Defender Manolo will also miss the tie. Although their trip to Tenerife is the shortest of any other team in La Liga, the home have won three of their four home fixtures this season. Don't expect Málaga's woes to improve here. REVIEW: A goal by substitute Francisco López lifted Málaga off the bottom of the table in a 2-2 draw against Tenerife in the Canary Islands. Román Martínez gave the home side the lead on 18 minutes when he took a pass from Omar before slotting past Gustavo Munúa, and they were 2-0 in front in the 27th minute as Alejandro Alfaro bagged a goal. Málaga fought back and got a goal two minutes later when Edinho took a layoff from victor Obinna before slotting into a fairly empty net. The visitors then pulled out the draw in the 77th minute when Javi López fired home from inside the area past Sergio Aragoneses.
