Olympiakos Piraeus could well secure their spot in the Champions League round of sixteen, as the Greek champions visit AZ Alkmaar on Tuesday.
With just two points from their first four games, AZ are no longer a realistic candidate for a top-two classification. However, there is still a small chance and the Dutch champions may feel more confidence after Saturday's 2-4 win at Roda JC in the Eredivisie.
Olympiakos manager Zico said that a draw in Alkmaar will be a positive result for his team, who also drew their last two games in the Greek Super League. Should Olympiakos win while Arsenal beat Standard Liege in the other Group H match, the Greeks will be certain to advance.
The two sides met before on September 16th, with Olympiakos winning 1-0 thanks to a 79th-minute goal from Vassilis Torosidis.
Being the home team, AZ are slightly favored to win this game but a draw is no unlikely result either.
REVIEW:
AZ Alkmaar and Olympiakos held each other to a goalless draw in Tuesday's Champions League action, a result that leaves both teams in suspense ahead of the sixth match-day.
Although the scoreline suggests differently, both sides were committed to scoring the first goal in Alkmaar.
AZ created the most opportunities, but the Dutch champions lacked precision in front of Nikopolidis' goal.
Olympiakos had a number of chances as well, but keeper Romero, and in one case defender Swerts got in the way.
For Olympiakos, this draw means that one point at Arsenal on Day 6 will be enough to secure second place in this group. AZ need a win over Standard Liege in order to move into third and advance to the Europa League.
